Day 12 - Monitoring Appointment #2

Today is day 12 of my no-menses cycle and my first ultra sound and blood draw following the Clomid cycle. At my ultrasound I was told that I had a follicle in my right ovary measuring 16.7mm.  In order for the follicle to be considered mature, it needs to be between 18 and 22mm.

My estradroid levels are at 151 now which is fine.  The nurse told me that the hormone that promotes ovulation (LH) is still low (~9), but that it has time to rise, but she thinks I'll need the Ovadril trigger to trigger the ovulation.

This is what's going to be considered my baseline.  I have to go back tomorrow for more monitoring.

My stress level is medium.  Work is not stressful right now, it's the rest.  The situation with the guy I'm smitten with is causing me a little bit of stress because he hasn't been giving me the attention that I want from him.  I mean, to be fair, it's been only a few days, but it still sucks.

Added Stress During Ovulation

Currently, I'm under an extreme amount of stress.  To be totally candid, about a week and a half ago, I re-connected with a man I knew many years ago.  We hung out and I've been smitten with him ever since.  I'm having a hard time concentrating on anything when I'm constantly worried that the feelings aren't reciprocated.  To add to the stress, we live in different countries and I'm trying to not obsess about how to keep an open line of communication between us.

We've been (in my opinion) flirting over email (my friends disagree), but nothing that he's said reassures me that a match between us is eminent.  And that's what I want at this time.  So, the stress of not knowing and not being my normal, forward self is making it hard for me to keep my eyes on the prize.

I'm quite determined to have it all, baby and boyfriend, but this is stressful.

Day 10 - Spotting

Yesterday was my last day of taking the Clomid (50mg) in order to promote ovulation and the growth of my follicles.  Today, I was at work, and I went to the bathroom, only to find spotting and blood when I urinated.  It wasn't much, but it scared the hell out of me.

I emailed my nurse at the fertility clinic to tell her that I was spotting and I didn't know if I should be concerned or not, and she emailed me back to tell me that it's quite normal to be spotting throughout the process.  And that I shouldn't be concerned.

It was only that time.  For the rest of the day, my urine was normal.

Clomid Days 5 - 9

I've been taking Clomid for 5 days now, and on day 4, I could feel cramps on my right side which I attribute to ovulation.  Well, I'll say this... my body is doing something it doesn't normally do.

I've been having intercourse each night after taking my Clomid to try to stimulate my ovaries.  Not only does the fertility clinic recommend intercourse during and after Clomid, but my friends who recently went through the IUI process also told me that it was critical in their conception.  They went through 3 cycles of IUI and a major difference in their 3rd cycle (where they got pregnant) was that they were having intercourse around the entire ovulation stage of the cycle.

I do hope this cramping feeling goes away.  It's dull, but it's noticeable. If I'm not ovulating and growing follicles from my right ovary, then I don't know what's going on.

Day 5 - Monitoring Appointment #1

Today, I went in to the fertility clinic in the wee hours of the morning (okay, 8am, but still...that's extremely early for me) for my first monitoring appointment prior to insemination.  It is what we're considering Day 5 of a no-menses cycle.  That just means that I haven't had a menstrual cycle to start a counter against, so they call the day "Day 5" and prescribe Clomid, to induce ovulation.  As this is my first cycle of IUI (http://americanpregnancy.org/infertility/iui.html), I have not been prescribed any FSH (Follicle Stimulation Hormones) which might result in multiple births.

The fertility clinic I go to is quite elegant and prestigious around the country, so I'm always comfortable there.  I got in about 30 minutes early in hopes of getting out in time to not have a late start to my work day.  Hey...it's a Friday, I want to get out of the office on time! They were able to take me before my appointment.
