About Me
I'm writing this blog as a way to journal and explain the process I'm going through to pro-create. I am currently married and separated (thus I consider myself single), and have been for almost 2 years. My husband and I tried to have children for a while, but I think the stress of our marriage plus my irregular menstruation made it impossible.
I've had to jump through every legal hoop to get to where I am today as I'm still technically married to The Grinch (that's what I'll call my husband), but I'm cleared to proceed and he will have no rights to any children I produce through the artificial insemination process.
So, what I've discussed with my doctor at the fertility clinic is to attempt IUI (Intrauterine Insemination) as a first method for creating a new life.
A few more things about me... I'm 35 and a half years old, I'm heterosexual, I have had irregular cycles for my entire life, I have a high stress job, I do not qualify for the financial assistance the clinic offers to families below a certain income, I am African American, I need to lose about 50-55 lbs, and I have no history of medical problems.
I selected a donor from California Cryobank who is white with European decent, 6'5", blonde hair, green eyes, non-Jewish ancestry. At this point, his sperm hasn't been washed, so I don't have anything to report in terms of his sperm's motility. My fingers are crossed and I hope to get a great kid out of this donor.
I'm still holding out for a kid with a man I am in love with, but currently, I'm not in love with anyone, so, I would hate to think that I'm just going to meet someone and have a kid with him while my fertility is still viable when I've hardly had opportunity to do so in the past year and a half since splitting from The Grinch. That love child will have to be a sibling to my donor child. I'll love them equally, but I'm not holding out for something that may never happen.
